Church Committees/Groups

The Church offers three main organisations for the community: the Armenian Ladies Association (ALA), the Churchwardens and the Sunday School.

Mrs Abaki Jamgochian founded the Armenian Ladies Association in 1907. When Mrs Jamgochian migrated to America, Mrs Voski Chakirian succeeded Abaki as chairwoman, and her granddaughter Miss Diana Doudian, continued the family tradition through the 21st Century. The Assocaition's job is to look after the cleanliness of the church, polish and tidy all the church silver, sew and mend all vestments and curtains, and to create social activities for the community.

In 1996, it was suggested that the church's basement to be renovated to a kitchen with a dining hall, in order to provide members of the congregation to have refreshments and lunch after the mass, before their journey back home. The Armenian Ladies Association currently organise this social gatherings every time after a service and are extremely successful. During the years, this has provided the staple income for the Association, which usually donates the money to charities like Aid Armenia or to individuals who help Armenia and Armenians by sending aid.

The Churchwardens are responsible of taking care of the church building, making the best investment of the church's capital and finance all expenses. It is on only special occasions that the Churchwardens cater for the congregation after the mass e.g. Easter. The money raised is placed in the Chruch's fund that is used when necessary. The current chairman of the Churchwardens is Mr T Couligian who is also the deacon.

The third group is the Sunday School, which is run by Mrs V Torosian and Mrs M Babakhanain. The school teaches children Eastern Armenian. Sometimes, for a special occasion or for a special anniversary, the school gives presentations to the communtiy in the form of singing, reciting poems or sponsoring dances.
